Minnesota Restaurant Association 2012 Holiday Party & Awards Ceremony

Tim Murray and his mother, Joyce Murray

As members by extension of the Murray family, we are happy to share that  Tim Murray, of Murray’s Restaurant and Steakhouse, was awarded Restaurateur of the Year at this year’s Holiday Party & Awards Ceremony that took place on Monday, November 19th at The Saint Paul Hotel!

Tim Murray was just 14 years old when he got his start in the restaurant business, working in the Murray’s Restaurant kitchen that his grandparents started along with Service Ideas back in 1946. He graduated high school from Benilde-St. Margaret’s in 1979 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout, earning a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management in 1983.

Tim went to work at Murray’s in a management capacity alongside his father, the late Pat Murray, and grandmother, Marie, in January of 1984 and never looked back. Tim has continued to work as General Manager and President of the establishment and still works side-by-side with family — a sister, Jill, and his brother, James. Now one of the most established restaurants in the Twin Cities, the Murray’s recently renovated the restaurant to preserve and enhance the space’s great history.

Tim has served on various committees with the Minneapolis Downtown Council, Minneapolis Chamber, the former Minneapolis Athletic Club, and was a co-founder of the independent restaurant group, Twin Cities Originals. He has been a board member of the Minnesota Restaurant Association since 1996, serving as president in 2008. Tim also serves as chairman of the Hospitality Minnesota board. In his spare time, Tim is an avid bowler during the fall and winter and golfer during the summer. He and wife Mary enjoy traveling to Mexico and other southern destinations.

Join us in wishing Tim our heartfelt congratulations on his award and recognition.
